Asphalt Plant Product Stock and Under-Screen Stock Units
Under-Screen Stock Unit
The under-screen stock unit is a critical component in asphalt plants, designed to store heated aggregates and prepare them for the mixing process. After aggregates are heated in the dryer to the desired asphalt production temperature, they are transported via elevators to the screen deck. Once screened, they move to the under-screen aggregate silos for temporary storage before being weighed. These silos serve as a waiting area between the screen and the weighing unit, allowing for a smooth and efficient production process.
The under-screen stock silos can be manufactured in various volumes and compartment numbers to match the plant’s capacity. Because they store heated materials, they are insulated with high-density mineral wool. At Alfamix Asphalt, we use premium mineral wool for insulation, and the silos are clad in painted trapezoidal sheet metal for durability and a polished appearance. These stock silos are equipped with standard level sensors to indicate minimum and maximum levels. Optional radar systems can be added for real-time stock level monitoring. Overflow channels are built into the design to prevent screen blockages.
Finished Asphalt Stock Unit
The finished asphalt stock unit is usually located beneath the mixing unit and is designed to store produced asphalt. This unit can be customized in various capacities and compartment numbers, and it can either be integrated under the mixing unit or installed independently of the tower. Similar to the under-screen stock unit, this unit is also insulated to maintain the temperature of the stored asphalt.
Each compartment features separate minimum and maximum level indicators, and optional radar systems are available for monitoring asphalt levels in real time. At Alfamix Asphalt, we offer standard single-compartment stock silos with two discharge gates but can also manufacture custom designs in different sizes and compartment numbers.
Importance of Stock Units in Asphalt Plants
Although they may not seem to directly impact the asphalt plant’s operational capacity, the size and presence of stock silos are crucial for the smooth and safe operation of the plant. These units play a vital role in energy efficiency and are integral components of the plant.
Stock silos help prevent unnecessary stoppages and restarts of the plant, which are undesirable in asphalt production. Frequent stops and starts lead to increased energy consumption and material waste. By minimizing these occurrences, stock silos enhance the overall efficiency of the plant, contributing directly to energy conservation and optimized performance.
